| The WAN Platform - The Manufacturer | |

|
History By the early 90s Abilis had evolved to specialise in two areas of pure engineering: the creation of electronic systems for advanced telecommunication networks and the development of software for computer aided design. The IBM Systems Network Architecture (SNA) and associated protocols (e.g. SDLC data link protocol) were key features of these developments. 1993 saw the first complete independent Abilis multiplexing system for data only, designed to enhance X.25 data networks, namely in the financial industry, by multiplexing various streams of data traffic over a single network channel. Rapid development and expansion of the system has been taking place since, to provide us with the Abilis system of today. The Abilis WAN System now supports: an extensive range of private and public network connections and protocols, toll quality voice compression and other operational, functional and multiplexing features. Retaining some of its original design supporting legacy networks, the Abilis WAN system is a multi-service platform allowing users to take advantage of old and new technologies, as efficiency and business operations demand. Abilis research and development programmers demonstrated their innovation when the Abilis system became one of the first to support toll quality voice compression over ISDN dial-up. Since Abilis was established, the group has grown to extend its penetration across Europe. Various subsidiaries and reseller channels have been established providing for a broad range of telecom and IT needs more locally to clients. The latest addition to the Group is Telplex, UK Distributors for Abilis, set up to continue and expand the delivery of successful solutions configured around client needs. A Wealth of Expertise Telecommunications and IT hardware have been at the forefront for Abilis, who have exclusively developed specialised equipment for Access and Private, voice, data and converged networks, to provide high technology simply, quickly and cost-effectively. With unrivalled expertise in voice and data systems integration, Abilis has been the supplier of choice for many companies wishing to maximise the efficiency of their existing communications investment, expand their business and increase functionality of their telecom and IT systems. Abilis products and services allow networks to be streamlined and upgraded such that operational efficiency offers considerable advantages to the business as a whole. Pan-European Profile The Abilis Logo seen on all Abilis systems has become well known in many industries in Europe. Abilis resellers in London, England; Mantova, North Italy and Madrid, Spain, continue the implementation of efficient and functional networks in many countries across Europe. A rapidly growing number of engineers and solutions analysts, backed by the solid foundations of Abilis research and development, provide fundamental knowledge and experience to allow clients to exploit the available technology. Examples of Abilis' distribution within Europe are seen in an impressive list of European clients in differing sectors, such as Luxottica - the group behind Ray-Ban with branches in 50 countries, Bank of Naples, the shipping company Nedloyd and the appliance company Alessi, who have availed of Abilis technologies to realise their Wide Area Networks. Continual Development
Dedicated Abilis software houses continuously research for the development of new products. Today the company has over 30 engineers located in its specialist Research and Development centers in Germany and North Italy. With effect from 1999, Abilis customers enjoyed the advantage of being able to rent equipment instead of having a large capital outlay on a technological purchase, the first 1999 semester revenue of $2M testifies to the success of this rental scheme. In order to continue with the high standards set by Abilis, all Abilis distributors have in-house engineers, network planners, voice data specialists and autonomy, in order to develop and expand product and service offerings as and when necessary. |
